The dirty, painted floor and……

We moved in….when we were in the middle of terrential rains! Really, we have been in the house for 5 weeks and it has been a rollercoaster ride to say the least.

Firstly, I like a clean house and when moving day was mixed with mud, it did not go well. Also, we had no help. So between myself, husband and 2 boys, we loaded and unloaded all our goods and furniture. As I said, this was 5 weeks ago and I am not finished packing up yet.

While all the rain was a very big pain, it was a blessing in disguise. We saw where potential issues would arise ie. slope toward the house, leaky gutters, flat roof, guest room dampness and then we also discovered mold! My worst nightmare.  But first things first;

The room I tackled first was Cohen’s room/game room. The room is large and I certainly didn’t want to spoil the baby in the family by giving him the largest room so I figured a plan to divide the room up with bookshelves. The wall was painted with Behr “Smokeshack”. The floor was tile that was previously painted but not to my liking. The process involved washing with soap then TSP and rinsing with water and a mop.

Firstly I applied Kilz Clear Primer/Sealer to assist the new coats of paint to adhere to surface. After it was dry, 2 coats of regular black paint followed by stensiling with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey

The stensils I purchased on Amazon here . It was a set of 4 different ones and we settled on this one. Lastly it was sealed with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish

It came out really well but it did take me a while to complete. I will be honest, I may suggest an additional container of sealer as we have to be very careful on the floor. However, it is better than what we had. The room is perfect for multi-use as a bedroom and game room but as we placed a sofa couch there, it will serve as an additional sleeping area too.
